National Plaster's Council Water Chemistry Guidelines

 Key Water Chemistry Parameters (Long-Term/Maintenance)

  • LSI: 0.0 to +0.3 (ideal), -0.3 to +0.5 (acceptable)
  • pH: 7.2 – 7.8 (7.4-7.6 preferred)
  • Total Carbonate Alkalinity (TA): 80 – 120 ppm
  • Calcium Hardness (CH): 150 – 400+ ppm (higher for warmer water)
  • Cyanuric Acid (Stabilizer): 30 – 50 ppm (never exceed 50 ppm, or < 15 ppm in some areas)
  • Free Chlorine: 1 – 3 ppm
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): < 1500 ppm (or 1000 ppm above startup) 

* For new pool plaster startups, follow the NPC startup guidelines. Use of a NPC certified startup professional is highly recommended.
